In this session, discover how Southern Nuclear, in partnership with Neudesic, developed the Downpower Predictor Tool to enhance reliability of their nuclear plants by predicting downpower and scram events. The tool analyzes data from equipment health monitoring, operator logs, problem reports, and environmental factors, recognizing adverse patterns and risk factors - critical for proactively addressing equipment degradation or human performance challenges before they result in outage. This initiative demonstrates the effective use of unified data for highlighting patterns not easily detected by operators and how data, both structured and unstructured, can integrate smoothly with current systems. While the tool is still undergoing further development and refinement, the potential to prevent power reductions and reactor trips represent significant nuclear safety, plant reliability, and cost benefits.
